Louis Victor Piniella was born on August 28, 1943. “Sweet Lou” is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and manager.
He played from 1964- ’84 for the Orioles, Indians, Royals, and Yankees.
He was the 1969 AL Rookie of the Year (Royals), a 1972 AL All-Star (Royals), and World Series Champion in 1977 and ’78 (Yankees).
He had a career batting average of .291, with 102 home runs, and 766 runs batted in.
He managed the Yankees (!986- ’87, ’88), Reds (1990- ’92), Mariners (1993- 2002), Devil Rays (2003- ’05), and Cubs (2007- ’10)
He was a World Series Champion (1990 Reds), and two-time Manager of the Year (1995 and 2001 Mariners).
His managerial record was 1,835- 1,712.
